Enterprise Products Drive Wireless LAN Market Growth in the Fourth Quarter 2005
SOHO Market Sees Double Digit Revenue and Shipment Growth in 2005
Redwood Shores, Calif. – February
14, 2006 – A recently published report from Dell’Oro Group,
the trusted source for market information about the networking and telecommunications
industries, reveals that the enterprise wireless LAN (WLAN) market posted strong
results in the last quarter of 2005, growing 29 percent year-over-year to $263 million,
primarily on strong sales of dependent access points and WLAN Switch/Server/Appliances.
Similarly, for the full-year 2005, the enterprise WLAN market also posted strong
revenue results, growing 20 p percent as dependent-or thin-access point shipments
tripled and WLAN Switch/Server/Appliance shipments doubled.
“The report also shows that sales of
small office and home office (SOHO) WLAN equipment during 2005 increased 14 percent
and unit shipments surged 33 percent.
"Wireless LAN equipment in the
SOHO market is still used primarily to share a broadband connection," said Greg
Collins, Senior Director of Wireless LAN Research at Dell’Oro Group. "We estimate
over one-third of broadband subscribers had WLAN functionality at the end of 2005,
up from approximately 25 percent at the end of 2004. Broadband services, including
data, voice, and video, will increasingly rely on Wireless LANs to distribute
content and services to multiple devices in the home," Collins added.
